I just had the best experience of my life... I was at a local board n brew in Orange County just minding my own business with my family and friends when I look up and notice Justin Freaking Herbert is sitting in a booth next to us with 2 of his pals. The first thing out of my mouth was "Oh shit, that's Justin Herbert" his friend looked up as I said that, he clearly heard me, and I turned away immediately and tried to act cool. Before I knew what hit me, I was sweating profusely, and my heart was racing. "What the hell is going on with me" I asked myself. I've met plenty of chargers before, and plenty of famous people before but I've never had his reaction before.
My wife and friends encouraged me to go up to him and ask him for a picture or autograph but all I could think of was how screwed up it would be of me to make him uncomfortable in the middle of his dinner. So I sat and contemplated what would be the best way I could go up to this guy, without making things awkward. My first idea was to tell my 4 year old daughter- who loves Justin- to go up to him and ask if he was justing Herbert and ask for a picture with him and me... but she was way too shy to go up to him.
My wife looked over at me and told me "Hey go show your daughter what you do when you are scared to do something cool. She's watching you and learning from how you handle this experience". It was at that moment that I realized I really had no choice. I couldn't bitch out in front of my daughter. So we waited for Justin to finish his meal and walked up to him to ask him for a picture together. I felt so nervous, no man has ever made me feel that way before...
I apologized like 5 times for interrupting his dinner and asked for a picture. He was so nice and reassured me that it was totally okay that I walked up to him.
I remember a few episodes back you guys were making fun of Kev Huggin Duggin for fanboying hard on Herbs when you guys saw the team at a hotel/restaurant... I remember laughing that day thinking of all the different ways I would've acted cool in a situation like that. And I gotta say now that the same thing happened to me. I sit here and truly empathize with you Kev!
My question is... If you had a random encounter with Justin Herbert like I did, and you had 30 seconds to pitch him to come on your show for an interview (lets say he was in the middle of eating a sandwich) what would each of you say?
I attached the picture we took, hope you enjoy it!
Thanks guys for the show, appreciate you all! Cheers fellas!
Wow! Amazing story! And we definitely applaud you for working up the courage to go talk to him. Mary and I have both talked a good game (how we wouldn't be nervous if given the opportunity to talk to Justin) ...well, we've gotten those opportunities😆and we totally chickened out and let him walk by without saying anything. So we're very impressed by your bravery! There's somethin about that Justin...he strikes fear into the hearts of even those with the strongest constitutions.
